Hello. I’m Sara. A design engineer living in Brooklyn, New York.
I build the systems that hold a product’s design together, and I write about where design and AI meet. Before this I spent years on component libraries and design tokens at a couple of product teams. I’ve been coding for 10 years and teaching half of that.
Most of my work now sits at the edge of design and AI: what a system needs to look like so an agent can build on it well, and what breaks when it can’t.
My writing includes:
- My thoughts on AI
- Taking maximum advantage from AI as a designer
- Design engineering redefined
- Effective developer marketing
- Coding agents and complexity budgets
- Design systems for AI agents
- What makes a design system agent-readable
- Design engineering redefined
- Why component libraries don’t help AI
- Tokens are not enough
- The complexity budget of a coding agent
- Figma handoff was already broken, AI just proved it
- CSS is the interface between design and AI
- Taking maximum advantage of AI as a designer
- Design engineers are becoming systems engineers
- What AI still can’t decide about your product
- Content first, code second
